If you are reading this then you know its' been awhile since I blogged. It's hard to find the time or the energy to sit down and just write in this busy world we live in. I read an article the other day about blogging. There are thousands of bloggers out there and the number one reason why people blog is because they have a story to tell. A story....... We all want to be remembered, leave a legacy, to know we served a purpose and our purpose/legacy will continue on when we are gone. This past weekend my mother's side, the Keyes, had a family reunion. I was in charge of the planning, yep, you know me I love to plan events...LOL. It has been years since we had one and it was very hard to plan it where everyone could come. We were missing a few and they were missed but overall it was a great feeling to see everyone. The Keyes family reunion reminded me of that day when we will have a big family reunion...the day our Lord carries us home. You see the Keyes story came about like this(I promise I will give you the short version). My grandfather, Deavours Eugene Keyes(yep that is where my name came from) was stationed in England during WWII. My grandmother, Catherine Hill Keyes, an English girl saw him doing the gitter bug and well she left her family in England to marry my grandfather and they traveled the world with seven children: Butch, Tommy, Donna, Johnny, Gillian, Jackson, and Joe as he served this great country. My grandfather retired from the Air Force after 30 plus years and they decided to retire on a chicken farm in Ellisville, MS. I never met my grandfather he died from Alzheimers when my mother was pregnant with me. My mom talks of him often and I smile as she tells me stories of her childhood and the places they were stationed during her daddy's service in the Air Force. My grandmother passed away 18 years ago and while I was blessed to know her I really didn't understand her journey till I became a mother and now have my own story to tell. My grandmother traveled the world with seven children by herself, she left her mother to never see her again to marry a man she loved, she did see her sister a couple of times but wow.....I mean what a story! I can't imagine never seeing my mom again, everyone knows we are close. Now thank God for technology! I know I left some big pieces out of my grandparents story but the main point is they left our family with a great story to tell...... LOVE!!! I mean LOVE isn't that what Christ did for us, He left His home to come to save us what a great story of LOVE! While we were at the family reunion some of my cousins and aunts were talking about things they had from my grandmother, and I have to admit I was like how did they get that, my sister and I looked at each other and was like we didn't get anything. You see my grandmother didn't have a lot of "material" things I mean they moved so much that my mom tells me they always lost their luggage, in fact we don't have hardly any pictures of my grandparents or pictures of my mom when she was little due to the fact they moved so much. I was concerned a little and even was like why didn't I get anything. Then, I stopped and smiled to myself that night who cares about the "material" things, I have a story to tell of my grandparents because I was blessed to share memories with her that I have now passed down to my children. I remember our talks together as I went to Jones and she and I would share lunch together and of course my oldest, Kaitlin got to meet her. I can't wait to share the rest of my story with my family and may the Love that my grandparents had for each other be remember as what it was......A Love Story! So as you go through out your life remember to write your story......write a story of love! Be blessed! devon BP Corner I can't wait to see what my grandchildren think of Brian and I love story.......if you really know Brian and I you know we have a story of love! |
